Social Media and Digital Strategy Manager

Our client is a venture-backed startup commercializing sustainable nuclear power technology for use in remote, off-grid, and mission-critical environments across defense, space, and maritime sectors.

They are seeking a Social Media & Digital Strategy Manager to own and evolve their digital presence at the intersection of energy and deep technology. This is a high-autonomy individual contributor role for a seasoned operator who believes social media should be a strategic advantage, not a compliance exercise. We are looking for someone who knows how to be confident, fast, and opinionated in serious industries. Someone who understands how to participate in real conversations, take smart risks, and build credibility through clarity and conviction.

You will act as the editor-in-chief of their social presence, shaping how the company and its leadership show up in moments that matter. This role is ideal for someone who has already operated independently, made judgment calls in public, and understands how to push boundaries without undermining trust.

What You'll Own

Social Strategy, Voice & Editorial Direction

  • Own the end-to-end social media strategy for the corporate brand, with a primary focus on X and LinkedIn.
  • Develop and protect a distinctive brand voice that is confident, technically grounded, and willing to take a point of view.
  • Establish the organization as a visible, credible participant in conversations across advanced energy, defense, and deep technology.
  • Make independent, real-time editorial decisions about when to engage, when to lead with opinion, and when restraint is the smarter move.
  • Balance speed, clarity, and boldness with the realities of operating in a regulated, safety-critical environment.

Content Creation & Execution

  • Create high-quality social content including short-form copy, graphics, and simple visual assets that translate complex technical ideas into compelling narratives.
  • Partner with an in-house production team to strategically deploy video and photography for maximum impact.
  • Shape content that goes beyond announcements to spark conversation, signal confidence, and build long-term brand credibility.
  • Maintain a high bar for taste, clarity, and consistency across all posts.

Community Engagement & Cultural Relevance

  • Own day-to-day posting and active engagement, particularly on X, with a strong sense of timing and tone.
  • Monitor conversations across relevant ecosystems to identify moments where the brand can add real value, not noise.
  • Engage authentically with industry communities, including moments of skepticism or disagreement, without escalating risk or diluting credibility.
  • Build trust by participating as a thoughtful voice, not a reactive brand account.

Executive Thought Leadership

  • Own social strategy and execution for executives on X and LinkedIn.
  • Ghostwrite and manage executive content that reflects authentic voice, informed opinions, and strategic perspective.
  • Mine speeches, interviews, podcasts, presentations, and internal discussions to surface strong executive points of view.
  • Manage content review and approvals efficiently to enable timely, confident publishing.
  • Proactively surface news, trends, and competitor activity where executive commentary would be additive or clarifying.

Influencer & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Identify, vet, and build relationships with relevant influencers, subject matter experts, and key opinion leaders in defense, energy, and deep tech.
  • Develop collaboration strategies that extend reach while preserving credibility and editorial integrity.

Integrated Marketing & Communications Support

  • Partner closely with the Communications Manager to support launches, partnerships, events, and major announcements.
  • Contribute to the company's email newsletter, including content development and performance analysis.
  • Support basic website content updates and collaborate on SEO initiatives to improve organic visibility.

Required Experience

  • 5–8+ years of experience owning social media programs end-to-end for B2B technology companies, startups, or organizations operating in complex, high-stakes environments.
  • Direct experience working in regulated, technical, or reputationally sensitive industries, such as energy, defense, aerospace, fintech, or healthcare.
  • Experience managing both a corporate brand account and multiple executive social profiles simultaneously, including strategy, ghostwriting, publishing cadence, and approvals.
  • Deep fluency in X and LinkedIn, including platform culture, audience expectations, and algorithmic behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience ghostwriting for executives or managing executive personal brands.
  • Proven ability to translate dense technical or scientific concepts into clear, engaging narratives without oversimplifying.
  • Strong editorial taste and point of view, with examples of confident, distinctive brand or executive presence in serious industries.
  • Comfort operating with significant autonomy and making real-time editorial and engagement decisions.

This role is best suited for someone who has already operated in environments where accuracy, judgment, and restraint are as important as speed and creativity.
